SIERRA NEVADA MOUNTAINS, SPAIN 2012

Muhlacean, Sierra Nevada. Nov 2007

The Sierra Nevada mountains in the south of Spain boasts the highest peak in mainland Spain, Mulhacen. This and many other 3000m plus peaks are located in the province of Granada. The whole area boasts a wonderful climate with over 300 sunshine days per year. The mountains are surrounded by the beautiful white washed villages of the Alpajurra, Travelez and Calparira are two of the most beautiful and highest in Spain. We base ourselves at these villages plus two nights in a high mountain refuge with meals, drink and comfortable Alpine style beds.

Capilera, Nov 2007

Capilera is probably the most picturesque village in the Alpajurra. At the foot of the Sierra Nevada we base our selves here for two nights, walking from the village and using the excellent National Park bus service to get us high in the mountains.

At the summit of Muhlacean. Nov 2007

Mulhacen is the highest summit on the Spanish mainland. The walk up to the top is straightforward but long from Capilera. So we walk to the refuge for a two nights stay where the route to the summit is only two hours.

Ibex. Nov 2007

Ibex are in abundance all over the national park. This is a youngster getting to grips with bounding up and down the steep mountainsides
