Tarmachan Mountaineering is run by Gary Hodgson, an experienced and passionate mountaineer who has been based in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland for over 16 years and has an intimate knowledge of the Scottish mountains. He has been leading and instructing groups from a wide range of ages, backgrounds and abilities for the last 9 years. With over 20 years personal experience of walking and climbing in Britain and in many countries worldwide.
Gary is a fully qualified Summer and Winter Mountain Leader and holds the International Mountain Leader Award
Tarmachan Mountaineering is situated in Fort William, The Outdoor Capital of the UK. The town is dominated by Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK and surrounded by some of the most striking, challanging and beautiful mountains in Britain. With such a wide range of mountains on the doorstep, Fort William makes a excellent base for a mountain walking holiday.

Hi Gary I hope you are well? Somewhat belated I know but Simon and I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the fantastic weekend we had last month doing the winter skills course. Definitely challenging with all the snow but very rewarding and given the accidents that weekend, it brought home how important it is to be safe on mountains. I think we both gained greater confidence and learnt skills we can use in the future. Friends either thought it looked brilliant or madness!
